Thomas serves as transactional and outside due diligence counsel for exploration and production companies. He has represented E&P companies in dozens of acquisitions in major plays throughout the country.
Thomas's practice focuses on leading acquisition and due diligence efforts. He manages the drafting and negotiation of deal terms, notice and curative procedures in conjunction with closings, and provides counsel on PSAs, letters of intent, participation agreements, joint operating agreements, farmouts, assignments, closing documents, and other pertinent aspects of oil and gas transactions.
Prior to joining the firm, Tom worked as an associate at Underwood Wilson Berry Stein & Johnson in Amarillo, Texas, where his practice focused on oil and gas, real property and wind energy transactions. He is a recipient of the George T. Abell Scholarship at Colorado State University, the Board of Regents Scholarship at Texas Tech University, and an alumnus of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
- Led buyers and sellers in the negotiation, drafting, amendment, and execution of purchase and sale agreements for the acquisition and divestiture of producing, nonproducing, and proven undeveloped mineral interests and leases in complex multi-party transactions
- Supervised drafting of acquisition diligence and curative documents pursuant to PSAs
- Prepared numerous original, drilling, supplemental, and division order title opinions in conjunction with the exploration of oil, gas, and mineral properties
- Advised oil and gas companies on acquiring, selling, and operating mineral assets
